File under: Jobs I'd kill for
Testing runway shoes.  I know trying to figure out if 12’ inch heels allow for normal walking would be torture to some, but I’d absolutely fall all over myself for the opportunity.  Literally and figuratively.

– Alexander Wang has a refreshing approach to fast-fashion versions of his designs.  I’m sure being 25 and still a fairly new success colors his view, but I find it encouraging that perhaps New York’s hottest young designer understands the woes of the less financially satisfied.

This worries me
Tim Gunn is set to appear in the Sex and the City sequel, which is beginning to sound more like celeb cameo vehicle as opposed to an actual narrative film.  At this rate, I might actually have to see this mess.

The Great Weight Debate
Just as the leaves turn brown and the daylight becomes scarce, controversy over role of weight in the fashion industry returns each year.  Some event always seems to spark a pressing debate, this year we get the double whammy of the Ralph Lauren debacle and the role of models in magazines.  The Washington Post’s Robin Givhan stirred up the bees’ nest this weekend with her piece on why...

Great cameo or greatest cameo?
Victoria Beckham is reportedly flying to New York this week to film scenes for an upcoming episode of Gossip Girl! Though the Mirror UK isn’t always known for it’s accuracy, let’s hope this report is true. Talks were then held - although the former Spice Girl had a few conditions… we’re told: “She isn’t an actress and wanted her role to be very...

This is why I don't buy expensive shoes
Earlier this week my closet door kept popping open, as every time I walked by, I’d try and slam it closed.  Without checking to see if something was obstructing the door, naturally.  Turns out it was the heel on a pair of boots I just bought and have worn once.

Dear fashion industry,
Please stop equating having boobs as being plus-sized or “curvy” (industry euphemism for fat, let’s be honest).  Daisy Lowe and Lara Stone are still exceptionally thin women, despite having a chest. Love, A D-cup girl

Karl Lagerfeld bravely takes on "real women"
“No one wants to see curvy women…You’ve got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying that thin models are ugly.” Finally, someone in the industry is taking a stand against fashion mags eschewing svelte models for “real women.”

The Great Heel Debate
Much ado is made each season when fashion designers send out their latest, greatest and highest heels.  This year, it’s McQueen’s ten-inch shoes that are causing the ruckus. Today the New York Times presents a rundown of possible explanations of why we love shoes “that hurt us.”  Frankly, none of them truly resonated with me.  I do agree that the simple increase in height...

It's good for the sole
There’s nothing quite like coming home from the shoe repair shop with 5 pairs of previously scuffed to hell, metal spike showing, platform-cracked excuses for heels looking shiny and new (only $45 at Kim’s in Brooklyn). It makes me feel better about the constant abuse I inflict upon my shoes and dampens my desire for new fall shoes, temporarily.

Diane von Furstenberg supports Roman Polanski -...
Roman Polanski’s arrest in Switzerland over admitted unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl has put the film industry in tizzy.  Calls for Polanski’s release by members of Hollywood have, unfortunately, become somewhat commonplace.  The fashion world seemed somewhat mute, until Diane von Furstenberg decided to lend her support to the rapist. Did Polanski suffer an almost...
